Secrets are sometimes kept providing the pleasure of surprise. Other times, we attempt to consciously conceal aspects of ourselves from others due to shame, or from fear of violence, rejection, harassment, loss of acceptance or loss of employment. We may also attempt to conceal aspects of our self that we are not capable of incorporating psychologically into our conscious mind.
